Dental Crowns Dental Bridges Dentures Root Canal Preventive Care Dental Crowns Dental crowns are used to cover teeth that have been damaged due to injury or disease. They are made of metal, ceramic, or porcelain fused to metal and can restore strength and reduce discomfort in addition to hiding imperfections. Metal crowns are an ideal solution for repairing back teeth that are not visible when the patient smiles. Ceramic crowns are made of a translucent material that is similar to natural tooth enamel and are often used to restore front teeth. Dental crowns made of porcelain fused to metal are a third option. These types of crowns are stronger than ceramic crowns but are not as natural looking. Dr. Irani will help you choose the dental crowns that are most appropriate for your needs and goals. The dental crown procedure generally takes two office visits to complete. In the first visit, Dr. Irani will prepare the teeth for treatment and make an impression that is used to create the permanent crowns. He will also place temporary crowns that will be worn for approximately two weeks while the permanent crowns are being crafted. In the second visit, Dr. Irani will remove the temporary crowns and then bond the permanent crowns in place. Dental crowns are often used in conjunction with dental implants and dental bridges to replace missing teeth. For patients who wish to repair only minor imperfections such as chips or discoloration, porcelain veneers may be a more appropriate option. Dental Bridges Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. The dental bridge is made up of a replacement tooth with a dental crown attached on each side. Dental bridges are bonded to either dental implants or natural teeth. To begin the procedure, impressions are taken of the patient’s teeth in order to create custom crowns. After the crowns are completed, they are bonded on both sides of each replacement tooth. Then, the dental bridge is bonded securely over the patient’s missing (and surrounding) teeth to restore functionality and dramatically transform the patient’s smile. Dentures For patients who are not ideal candidates for dental implants or dental bridges, dentures are an alternative to replace missing teeth. There are several types of dentures available, including conventional full dentures, natural-looking cosmetic dentures, immediate dentures, and partial dentures. Dr. Irani will help determine the type of dentures that are most appropriate for your needs. Root Canal Root canal therapy is performed to alleviate pain and to restore strength in cases where teeth have been damaged due to disease. Root canal therapy has a reputation for being painful, but with today’s technology a skilled dentist such as Dr. Irani can perform the procedure so that the patient will not feel pain before or after treatment. Individuals who do not receive treatment are generally in much more pain. Prior to the root canal, the patient will be fully sedated using either general anesthetic or sedation dentistry technology. During the procedure, Dr. Bobby Irani will remove infected tissues, disinfect the inside of the tooth, and fill the root canal with a rubber-like material. A second visit is required to check for complications and to complete the procedure by placing a dental crown or filling.
