At Valencia Dental Arts, we are committed to using state-of-the-art dental treatments to give our patients the healthy, beautiful smiles they desire. We also want patients to feel as relaxed as possible during their appointment. To ensure our patients' relaxation, we feature several types of sedation dentistry technology at our practice serving Valencia and the Santa Clarita Valley. As a skilled sedation dentist, Dr. Bobby Irani will determine the method that is most appropriate for the patient’s level of anxiety and the type of treatment being performed. Candidates for Sedation Dentistry Types of Sedation Dentistry Candidates for Sedation Dentistry Any individual who feels any anxiety at all about receiving dental treatment is a candidate for sedation dentistry. Sedation techniques can be used during any type of procedure, including regular cleanings, general treatments such as dental crowns and dental bridges, cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers and dental implants, and full mouth restorations. Patients who require lengthy treatments are excellent candidates for sedation dentistry, as well as those who have unpleasant memories from dental experiences in their past. Sedation dentistry is also very beneficial for little children who may be very anxious or find it difficult to stay still for even short periods of time. If you’ve been delaying dental treatment because of dental phobia or anxiety, sedation dentist Bobby Irani and the staff at Valencia Dental Arts can help ensure that your treatment is as comfortable as possible. Contact us today to schedule a consultation. Types of Sedation Dentistry There are three main types of sedation dentistry: oral sedatives, nitrous oxide sedation, and intravenous (IV) sedation. All three types induce a state of relaxation in the patient so that he or she does not feel any anxiety during treatment. The type of sedation dentistry method used will depend upon the patient’s level of anxiety and the type of treatment being performed. Oral sedatives can be taken the night before the procedure or thirty minutes to an hour before treatment. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is inhaled before treatment for light to moderate relaxation. Deeper relaxation is achieved with intravenous ( IV) sedation. In some dental procedures, a local anesthetic may be administered along with the sedation dentistry technique so that the patient does not feel any pain during treatment.
